Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteers stay in the volunteer house located at the HOCW compound. The house has three bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom.

There are two compounds separated by a one-minute walk. The original compound has the volunteer house, founder’s quarters, a computer classroom, two classrooms, and a tailoring workshop. The new compound hosts the main offices, classrooms, hairdressing studio, library, daycare, and meeting rooms for counseling. Other facilities include the mushroom and agriculture collectives.

Ndejje Central Zone is a small village within Ndejje Parish, located 12 km south of Kampala. It is distinct from the town of Ndejje north of Kampala.

Yes, HOCW has electricity, water, and internet, but due to its rural location, short power outages may occur occasionally.

Meals at HOCW are fresh, unprocessed, and local. A typical meal includes carbs, protein, vegetables, and fruit. Dietary concerns can be accommodated.

During free time, volunteers can explore nearby restaurants, coffee shops, and stores in Kampala, a 30-minute trip by public transport. Lubowa, a nearby expat community, is a 25-30 minute walk away and offers restaurants, coffee shops, a gym, a bank, and a grocery store. On weekends, volunteers can organize travel in Uganda or other parts of East Africa.
