Learning local languages accelerates the integration process, so we offer classes in English, the official language of Uganda, and Swahili, a widely spoken language in East Africa. Over 14 languages are spoken around HOCW, and English or Swahili instruction has proved to be invaluable to our students.
There are four levels of English: beginner, novice, intermediate, and advanced. These classes are designed to prepare students for the UNHCR English exam. The proficiency certificates are useful for job and resettlement applications.
In addition to classes, students are able to practice and enhance their language skills at our debates on Friday and in our library of about 5,000 books.
Our language courses accelerate integration by offering classes in English, Uganda’s official language, and Swahili, widely spoken across East Africa. These courses provide invaluable support to refugees, helping them improve communication skills, apply for jobs, and enhance their resettlement prospects.
“I decided to stay and battle my challenges. Through the challenges, I am seeing the fruits, and people must learn to confront their challenges”.
